Ive been a Gear-Head since the beginning and one thing for sure is Cliff Bleszinski was responsible for providing us with not one but three awesome games to enjoy. It seems like the right thing to do show him props by putting him in the mix. I used Photoshop CS4 , 3DS Max 2012 (student version..Ofcourse!!)and illustrator CS4 and a few gallons of coffee. I drank so much coffee iI almost had a stroke or something.I want to dedicate this to my four year old because he is more of a Gea-rHead than I.We are going to the midnight launch so I had to get this done because I am not doing anything else other than get my Gears On......Plus my four year old son is my co-op partner and has been with me critiquing me during this long week of no sleep and too much coffee....Took me about a week as I am not as skilled as others on DA...I di reference a number of gears images as well as use items from the assest pack...My heart is poured out on this one....Updated will post another entry hopefully before the deadline.....
I think you have a good start, although, as others have mentioned, you should fix the dimensions of the image. I actually think it would look better without so much of the extra orange sky taking up so much space, it detracts from the nice details on the characters who are much more interesting to look at.
One thing that bothers me is the mixture of 3D models (buildings/stuff in background) with the drawn 2D characters in the foreground. It's always difficult to make the two different styles mesh in a harmonic way so maybe if you somehow made the background feel more "drawn" and 2D it would flow a little better and feel less separated.
So yeah, that's it, I hope my suggestions helped you some and good luck with your entry
I think it is great that you are honoring one of the creators. I do find that I agree with everything thing that shinlyle mentioned. The characters kinda have their own style so it is hard to really say anything specific. I hope the sizing thing is all figured out. Good luck!
Looks pretty cool! The characters are rendered really well...especially love the effect on Cliffy B's hand. The only criticism I would probably make would be that the drop shadows on the background characters seem a little off. The one on the left side of the pic (Marcus?) is lit from behind, yet his shadow is falling on the wall behind him. It should be going forward.
The only other thing I MIGHT do to it if I were you would be to add some weathering and damage to the walls in the background. It's clear that the far background is utterly ruined, but the midground seems to bealmost new. Some chunks missing and some cracks would really add that extra dimension to it! Also, maybe some destruction on the floor, too.
It's a really solid piece, man! Anya looks totally bad-ass!
